My two alter egos collide in this one verrry awesome video. My love for the paranormal (hence this site), and my overwhelming adoration for The Gamers: Dorkness Rising (and all things geek). If you enjoy DND style gaming, and you should, then you already know about Dorkness Rising. If you haven’t heard about it then do yourself a favor and GO SEE IT!!! It used to be on Netflix for free, but it’s under $20 to own, so do yourself a favor and add it to your collection. It’s great fun, especially if you game, or do any game-con style revelry.

Anyway, what I wanted to show you was this. It’s a video project Called Geek Seekers starring Jen Page (from Dorkness Rising). The project is looking to get funding from folks like us who want to see the project go forward. Take a look it looks hillarious. awesome. OMG. Then donate.

GEEK SEEKERS!

Geek Seekers is a web series about geeks and the paranormal–two great tastes that taste great together, we think. In each episode two geeks will investigate some strange location or phenomena. Ghosts, UFOs, bigfoot… these are the kinds of things the Geek Seekers will investigate. In the geekiest way possible. In Geek Seekers, you’ll see a mixture of real investigations, geekly discussions, and the occasional bit of silliness, just for good measure.

What will the Geek Seekers find? Ghosts? Ogopogo? Aliens? What craziness will they instigate on their own? What trouble will they find themselves in as they do this crazy stuff?

Now here’s the coolest part.  If you donate you can get some awesome goodies.  For example, at the $150 lvl you get your name on the backers list, a copy of the DVD, and a special invitation to a live Geek Seekers “Investigate the Paranormal” event held at GenCon, a convention held in August in Indianapolis (backer must provide his or her own way to Indianapolis and the convention).

Whether or not there is thin-veil-residue over the weeks following Halloween, I’ve found some pretty neat stories about hauntings and ghosts associated with Thanksgiving and the month of November. Here’s a little compilation of some of the more interesting ones…

Thanksgiving Ghosts – from the Brush / Ft. Collins, Colorado area in 2007

We were driving home from Brush to Fort Collins, Colorado, and it was starting to get dark, just barely. My mom is totally psychic, she has small stuff like premonitions and things like that every once in a while. It started mostly when she saw two guys standing by a telephone pole, staring at her. And I’ll tell you this now, my mom never lies to anyone! And so she was waving at them….

Let’s go outside Colorado, to the nearby state of Arizona (and California) for this next tale.  Arizona ghost hunter travels: Thanksgiving at Folsom Prison

They say the Folsom Phantom is the spirit of a prison guard killed during a 1927 prison riot on Thanksgiving Day. Hopefully it wasn’t over the holiday meal.  Two Folsom prison guards died during the November 1927 uprising. On Thanksgiving Day, Ray Singleton was stabbed to death as he guarded inmates leaving the prison library after a movie. Prison guard, Charles Gillies had a fatal heart attack while he manned his post at the prison’s front gate. The riot lasted two days.

I heard my Gran tell Mom that she had heard strange footsteps in the house the night before but Gramp told her she was crazy and let it alone. In the middle of the night, she went to use the bathroom and saw a “person made of shadows” heading towards the kitchen…

And what sucks worse than having to work on a holiday?  Working in a haunted building on a holiday.  Haunted Thanksgiving at the Office -

By this time we knew we were dealing with something abnormal. It still could of been an abnormal office worker, but I doubt it. We walked out of the breakroom and searched the building one more time. But there was nothing. We didn’t hear footsteps, or see any cars driving in the parking lot.

Last but not least, here’s a bit of fiction to tide you over until you can bring out the story of Ebenezer Scrooge after black Friday.  This tale is called The Ghost of Thanksgiving by Armand A. Gagnon.  Grab a cup of Earl Gray and read the whole thing!

He was uninvited: indeed he wasn’t there. He had somehow appeared, coming out of the woods on that cold and dreary Thanksgiving Day, knocking on our door seeking shelter from the storm. And what an odd holiday evening that it turned out being because of him…

The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO

To honor tomorrow’s “big event” – here is a clip about the Stanley Hotel – made famous by Stephen King in The Shining, and more recently – The Ghost Adventures filmed an episode of their show here.

Sounds like there’s a new book delving into the mystery and ghosts surrounding our famous hotel in Estes Park.  I’d love to read The History and Haunting of The Stanley Hotel – by Rebecca Pittman.  Sounds right up my alley! I’m adding it to my holiday “wish list” right now!

Dia de los Muertos at the Botanic Gardens – no Ghosts in the Garden tours this year, but they do have a spectacular Day of the Dead celebration scheduled. “This event will feature live entertainment, artists, dancers, a sugar skull-making area and a papel picado-making area.”Date and Time: Saturday, Oct. 29, 5-8 p.m. Tickets range from $5 – $8

Emma Crawford Coffin Races in Manitou Springs, CO this Saturday the 29^th. Includes a Parade, the Races, food, merriment, and creepy-good fun! I love this town, and I’m sure the event will be as lively as ever! Fun for the whole family.

The Denver area hosts some of the best Haunted Houses around – but my favorite is Fright Fest at Elitch Gardens – a friend of ours works there. Go, go, go, go!!!! You won’t regret it. $8 for each haunted house (there are two).

Capital Hill Ghost Walk – a tour offered by author Phil Goodstein is a great way to get to know the area’s spooky past. Phil offers other great tours too (not just in Capital Hill, and not just ghost tours). So see all the gems he has to offer! The CapHill Ghost Walk is $15 and tours run ever day this weekend.

The Creepy Crawl – a haunted history tour of Central City – hear great ghost stories and haunting tales on this 21 and over tour in the historic mining town. Tickets are $5 each.

Da Votch Ka Halloween in Denver – at the Ogden Theater on Friday the 28th

There’s Zombie Burlesque at Rock-a-Billies in Arvada – free drinks for those in zombie costumes. That’s tonight, Friday the 28^th.

The local news station – 9news.com has been serving up some stellar scary tales and haunted historic stories this month. Their series on the Ghost Towns of Colorado has been particularly intriguing since I’ve been ghost town hunting a lot this summer. But there are still many places I want to see.
